Fellowship
Hickory Grove UMC is a warm, welcoming place to make friends, have fun and enjoy rich relationships with others. Fellowship activities are a vital part of our life together.
Fellowship activities include these and more:
1st Sunday Fellowship: coffee, juice and delicious food before and after the worship service on the first Sunday of each month, to help us meet each other, greet new people, and connect with friends. Join us on the first Sunday at 10:30 AM!
Wonderful Wednesdays: the second Wednesday of the month, from Sept. - May. Dinner, casual worship, and a program or activity for everyone. Wonderful Wednesdays may feature a speaker, offer a craft to make and take home, feature outdoor or indoor games, or some other fun activity.
Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper and Dixieland Jazz Night: a big celebration the night before Lent begins, when we kick up our heels and have a celebration of God's abundant goodness. Features pancakes, jazz and fun!
Brunswick Stews: every February and November. Great food and fellowship as we cook, sell and eat the world's best Brunswick Stew.
United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men: groups that meet monthly, for all the women and men of the church.
JOY Fellowship: a monthly lunch club for senior adults from Hickory Grove and from the community. Covered dish lunch and a program. Every 3rd Tuesday of each month, at noon. All are welcome!
Y.A.M.S. (Young Adult Ministries): a small group for young adults. You're likely to find us playing sports, going to a movie, going out to eat, playing laser tag, or enjoying an event around town together.
Spring Fling: a community event for all ages, held near Easter.
Church Picnic: featuring a cookout, softball and other games for all the families of the church.
Rafting on the New River: each summer we head for the mountains and tube or canoe down the New River, then enjoy a hearty BBQ dinner together.
Chicken BBQs: on the last Saturday of April and September, Hickory Grove opens its doors to hungry diners who come for a great chicken barbecue dinner, cooked in our own BBQ pit.
Holiday Market: a community event featuring vendors, bake sale, silent auction, visits from Santa, and our world-famous Brunswick Stew sale.
Blessing of the Animals at the Manger: a fun event for the four-legged members of the family! Open to the entire community, the Blessing of the Animals takes place in December, as we enjoy Christmas music and hot cider, bless all the animals, and get to meet these other members of the family.
Children's Christmas Pageant and Dinner Party: the children of the church perform a musical Christmas pageant, then we gather for a big covered dish dinner, a visit from Santa, and plenty of gift-giving.
